Is Therapy for me?

People come into counselling or psychotherapy for all kinds of reasons:

• You might be troubled by psychological problems like anxiety, depression or stress.

• You might be finding day to day life difficult for some reason.

• Perhaps you are struggling to come to terms with a loss of some kind - a person, a relationship, or even a pet.

• You might struggle in social situations.

• It might be that you have noticed that you have difficulty in susstaining long term relationships - and you don't really know why that is so.

• Are you struggling with other kinds of issues in your relationships - at.home or at work - perhaps being fearful of speaking your mind?

• Maybe you are troubled by a.phobia, addiction or eating issues?

• Do you feel lost in your life?

What should I do next?

Contact us by email or phone, or letter if you prefer. You might find it helpful to discuss any initial concerns on the phone.

You will be offered an initial consultation, at which your issues would be discussed in some depth. This is also an opportunity for you to meet your potential therapist, to see if there is a 'fit'.

This is a one off and there is no obligation on you to continue. Sometimes it is helpful to meet several times before any decisions are made.

If both, you and the therapist, agree that it would be valuable to go forward, then an appropriate form of therapy (i.e. individual, couple or group, frequency, duration, and so on) will be worked out with you.

If it were decided that group therapy is the treatment of choice, then you would be referred to a suitable group. It is usual to meet with the group therapist on a one-to-one basis for a number of sessions prior to joining the group.

If we are unable to help, or if it seems that another therapist might be better placed to help you, then we will refer you to one of our colleagues.
